If
you’re a hiker or just like to take a walk down a wooded trail, Shackford
Head State Park has something special to offer you. Located in Eastport,
this 90-acre peninsula has trails of varying difficulty. The several trails end
up in the same destination, a talus sloped bluff offering panoramic views of
the bay system. From the viewing location one can observe some of the local
aquaculture sites in operation.
For
the past several years, the first Saturday after Labor Day (The day before the
Eastport Salmon Festival) a unique attraction has been held in this island
city. The Eastport Gallery hosts Paint Eastport Day and invites artists
to come and paint their favorite Eastport scene. After an early morning
registration and a day of painting, the artists return to the Eastport Gallery
where the works are hung and a reception / silent auction takes place. Great
fun for artists young or old. Amateur or professional artists are welcome. No
medium restrictions apply and the registration is free. (207) 853-4166

During July and August a ferry service that operates between Eastport and Deer Island, New Brunswick that makes a great loop trip. After leaving Eastport on the ferry and arriving on Deer Island the traveler has two options. The first option being, to travel by ferry to the mainland of New Brunswick, then looping back via St. Andrews, and St. Stephen, going over the bridge to Calais, Maine and then down U.S. Route #1 to Eastport. The second option would be taking a ferry from Deer Island to Campobello, New Brunswick and then traveling across the Roosevelt Bridge to Lubec, Maine then looping around Cobscook Bay through the towns of Whiting, Dennysville, and Pembroke then back up U.S. Route #1 to Eastport.
